What’s the Impact’s problem with scoring? How could you dominate a game so bad and lose it on a stupid clearance (Stefano ma che cazzo hai pensato?) It’s frustrating because when you look at the Impact play and then you take a look at the standings; It makes no freakin’ sense. The Impact is solid defensively, creates plenty of dangerous scoring chances but still didn’t manage to slot one in the net. I don’t have anything special to say that’s different from the last time. A part from the fact that Rocco Placentino is an excellent addition, that doesn’t mean we’re scoring more goals. Mr. DeSantis will need to install the Strikers in front of a wall and let them kick it for 7 hours straight. By the way, Bob has all the game covered here.

I’m sure we’re going to bounce back. The Impact just needs some fine-tuning and a little more Gabriel Gervais and we should start climbing back in the standings. Oh yeah, and let’s pop our Sauto Stadium Cherry already.

Allez L’Impact !

Let’s go L’Impact !

That’s right, the words champions league and Canada in the same sentence with no mention of a certain Owen Hargreaves. As a Montrealer I will never get used to losing to Toronto Maybe it’s just because it happens so rarely, all sports included. But the Impact’s loss against Toronto hurts a little: maybe it was seeing Greg Sutton with a Red Uniform, maybe it was the fact that Montreal certainly deserved t be an MLS franchise before Toronto or maybe it’s just because Toronto is…well Toronto. The beautiful Saputo Stadium was near full capacity to witness the Impact go down 1-0 with 10 men. Toronto didn’t dominate the game, it was the Impact that shot itself in the foot once again. 1st with Pesoli’s red card and 2nd with the clear lack of finishing. Many would have thought the return of Rocco Placentino would have sparked the Attack, but that just wasn’t enough. The Impact created lots of chances but couldn’t put them past Mr. Sutton. We really need to start working on our finishing because the Defence is tight, the midfield is running smoothly and the Attack is getting fed some decent balls ; now it’s just of matter of putting them past the opposing keeper. We’re still not of the CONCACAF CL yet !

Allez L’Impact !

Let’s Go L’Impact

The Montréal Impact managed to sell out the brand spankin’ Saputo Stadium last Monday but Mother Nature didn’t want to collaborate. The Vancouver Whitecaps held the Impact to a 0-0 draw on opening day. No team found the net, so Saputo Stadium’s cherry has yet to be popped. The rain didn’t help at all, The sold out East End Stadium was Sold out but only about 10,000 people showed up and left gradually during the game. (After only 1 game, I’m pretty sure the Impact is the USL’s attendance leaders) However, Section 114 was chanting and dancing all day cheering on the hometeam. The Impact created many opportunities on offence but lacked finishing, however, the defence held the fort down well, with Matt Jordan making sure Eduardo Sebrango wasn’t going to be the 1st player to christen the Saputo Stadium. Nick Desantis’s boys showed some great spirit. New boys Pato Aguillera and Cedric Joqueviel played very well and Antonio Ribeiro is still an excellent option on the bench. All in all, the Impact managed to create a lot, it’s looking good for the future but we definitely need to start seeing some results from now on.

Allez L’Impact

Let’s go L’Impact !

The Impact really needs to understand the concept of a draw. The Thunder loss hurts because of the last gasp goal conceded. The Impact’s defence was compact for the whole game except for that 1 goal. But we seriously need to make the attack more fluid. Our best chances have come the opposing team’s errors rather than a kinky well-constructed attack. Not all is lost, The Impact hasn’t been clearly ”outplayed” by any team yet and have 1 more road game to play before entering the new haven of the Saputo stadium and getting some damn TV coverage over here! It’s time to bounce back against the Battery on Wednesday and then concentrate on providing a nice win against the Vancouver Whitecaps on May 19th at the spankin’ new Saputo Stadium

 Free Bocconcini for everyone !

Let’s Go L’Impact !

The Canadiens have been kicked out of the playoffs by some brotherly love and we can now enjoy the soccer season in Montreal. L’Impact still has 2 away games left before entering the new Saputo Stadium in May. Out of the 1st 4 games played we’ve managed to pick up a cool 6 points and we’re getting better with time. I know that L’Impact’s Italian style means that team fitness will only ameliorate itself exponentially as we move along the season. The last 2 games against Atalanta and Puerto Rico saw us lose Nevio Pizzolitto to injury for a little more than a month, but it also brought us 3 points ; Atalanta beat us fair and square but Matt Jordan managed to save a Penalty in Puerto Rico and L’Impact has left the Island with all 3 points in hand. 2 more road games and Montreal will be more than happy to welcome the boys back home. For now, bring on the Tunder

Allez L’Impact

Let’s Go L’Impact !

The Impact is well established in the extremely hockey friendly Montreal city. The fact that Mr. Spauto and the Impact have managed to find a nice little comfy niche in this Hockey crazed town is immense. Thank god Montreal’s multicultural community manages to provide more than enough loyal football fans to get an actual Soccer only stadium built is extraordinary.

The Montréal Impact organisation even has it’s own Ultra group ! The Montréal Ultras will be able to call Stade Saputo home very soon !
That’s how well established the organisation is in Montreal. They have their website and all !

Here’s a video about them made about 2-3 years ago, one of the very few Impact videos on the web ;

Dwight Barnett and Roberto Brown Perea scored to goals in the 2nd half that saw Nick Desantis’ crew come back from a 1 goal deficit to win the game. L’Impact ‘s win in Miami sends the 1st point on the USL board, and surely this is just the beginning to an exciting season. Bob has L’Impact’s win already covered, right here, in his, more than famous (I’d even say internationally recognised) Weekly USL Wrap Up. Unfortunately for Impact fans, the Habs are riding strong so the little sports media attention L’Impact usually gets is even littler than usual. Because I don’t want to fork out 50$ for USL coverage on the Net, I need to wait a little longer before the Impact coverage hits full tilt. So it’s a good thing we still have 4 games on the road left, that should give the Habs just enough time to get eliminated before we unveil the new east end Satdium. The Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighbourhood is finally represented on a North American stage.

But the Miami game showed us plenty of pleasant glimpses of what the future will hold. New comers, Severino Jefferson and Stefano Pisoli are looking more than USL worthy already and I just can’t wait to see the whole team gel. Gbeke and Matt Jordan are still the players they were last year and we can always count on Gabriel Gervais, Patrick Leduc, Adam Braz and Nevio Pizzolitto to be the good old reliables that they have always been. Add to that, the fact that Argentinean midfielder Leonardo Di Lorenzo has a USL season under his belt and it seems as though Joey Saputo, hit the nail right on the head with the timing of the new Stadium. It looks like the team will be more than tweaked before we get a good glimpse at what it can do.

Now it’s time to think about Siverbacking some Atalantans on Friday Night

Oh yeah, and head on to the new Rhinos page, they’re non-raging this year so let’s see how that affects the heated rivalry. Alessio’s has all your Rhino needs covered (Come to think of it, I think I need to hate you Alè ! Already you’re a Juve fan and now the Rhinos, what other skeletons do you have in your closet ? Are you a Leafs fan too for god sakes!?
At least we both love the Azzurri )

Allez L’Impact

Let’s go l’Impact

Not unlike Will Smith, the Impact is going to Miami

Montréal’s Impact will be paying a visit to Miami FC tonight in United Soccer Leagues First Division action at 7:30 p.m EST (You can watch the game on USLlive.com)

Midfielders Cristian Nunez and Matthew Palleschi, and defenders Cédric Joqueviel and Luis Aguilar did not hop the plane to Miami.

The Impact have never, EVER, lost or conceded a goal against Miami FC and it’s not going to start tonight. Miami FC drew their 1st game of the season while the Impact will be looking for their 1st points after falling to Vancouver in this season’s opener.

Of course this game’s in Miami because L’Impact’s new Saputo East end Stadium needs some fine tuning. I’m sure the Impact should be able to get the wheels of the squad in motion and Nick DeSantis will be looking to lead his troops to victory tonight.

Allez L’Impact!

Let’s go l’Impact

Again this year, the Montréal Impact organisation will working in association with ”le Club des petits déjeuners du Québec”, a local charity who helps underprivileged youth to provide a healthy breakfast each and every, and absolutely free. The goal is to provide children with a healthy meal and an environment that helps promote self-confidence.

Not only is the Impact a solid and well-structured team on the field, its organisation is extremely involved in the community and the players are always more than happy to give back to the Montreal community. The Impact is classy, from the field to the boardroom to the streets!

Allez L’Impact

Allez L’Impact

The only officially bilingual city in North America (it’s not official Los Angeles) is finally going to be represented on The Offside, so I feel it’s only normal to have bilingual posts seeing how Montreal is the sexiest city in North America and all. So whatever your favourite ” Solitude”would it be Québec or the ROC, rest assured that you’ll be able to find all you amusing Impact tidbits right here on The Offside. And Bob finally has someone to hang out with in this lonely USL section. (come to think of it the USL representation on The Offside has just doubled)Btw i’m Marco and you can find me on the Italia and Livorno pages as well

This is the 1st post so I won’t be talking about the 1st loss of the year or the New Stadium, the 4 road games remaining before the season opener Nick Desantis’ sexy calfs, not even my infinite love for Saputo Bocconcini’s won’t be mentioned for now. I won’t even be talking about the possible Liverpool loanees L’Impact could be considering for next year

In the meantime, if you have any questions suggestions or plain old comments, feel free to feel free !

Allez L’Impact

Allez L’Impact !
