Canadian CL Qualifying: Impact 0-1 TFC/Montréal Perd contre Toronto, Du Jamais Vu!
By: Marco | May 27th, 2008That’s right, the words champions league and Canada in the same sentence with no mention of a certain Owen Hargreaves. As a Montrealer I will never get used to losing to Toronto Maybe it’s just because it happens so rarely, all sports included. But the Impact’s loss against Toronto hurts a little: maybe it was seeing Greg Sutton with a Red Uniform, maybe it was the fact that Montreal certainly deserved t be an MLS franchise before Toronto or maybe it’s just because Toronto is…well Toronto. The beautiful Saputo Stadium was near full capacity to witness the Impact go down 1-0 with 10 men. Toronto didn’t dominate the game, it was the Impact that shot itself in the foot once again. 1st with Pesoli’s red card and 2nd with the clear lack of finishing. Many would have thought the return of Rocco Placentino would have sparked the Attack, but that just wasn’t enough. The Impact created lots of chances but couldn’t put them past Mr. Sutton. We really need to start working on our finishing because the Defence is tight, the midfield is running smoothly and the Attack is getting fed some decent balls ; now it’s just of matter of putting them past the opposing keeper. We’re still not of the CONCACAF CL yet !
Allez L’Impact !

I feel Montreal played better overall, even without key players (Biello, Pizzolitto, Gervais, Brown, and then, losing Di Lorenzo early in the game). But, Montreal’s lack of discipline cost them the game again. Nice to see that we can actually rival an MLS club.

We gonna wager on Friday’s game between the Impact and Timbers, Mr. Marco?

Toronto didn’t deserve an MLS team first? What a joke. We obviously have more football fans than you, even though the Lynx never drew more than 1000 people to any given game. But they had to compete with the NBA and MLB, which a city the size of puny Montreal can obviously not support. All frog-stomping aside, i look forward to a continued rivalry that will no doubt end up as one of the best in the soccer world.

ACAB : Tell your precious Conservatives to let us go already. It’s not so much we don’t wanna go, it’s more of a you don’t want us to leave
TDOT : Lynx had to compete with NBA ? When the hell do the Raptors ever make the playoffs ? With MLB ? I know Mariah Carey coes to throw the opening pitch once in a while, but the Jays are hardly an excuse for the Lynx’s miserable attendance history. Vancouver and MTL deserved way more than Toronto, purely speaking football terms.
Speaking of punyness, why doesn’t Toronto have ONE single winning professionnal franchise ?

Any idea why the Impact are starting the game at 7:30 instead of 8:00, like every other team does for FSC games?

Hmm… This year the leafs had a winning record, the Raptors made the playoffs, the Argos made the playoffs, the jays are 31-26, and TFC is 5-3-2 against MLS opponents. Not much losing going on over here. Oh yeah which city has won more championships in the four major sports in the last 20 years? The Argos have won four while the Alouettes have won 1. The Habs have won 1 and the leafs zero. The Jays have won 2 and the expos zero. The Raptors zero, MTL can’t support a basketball team. 6-2 in favor of toronto my friend.

See how you purposely left out the Impact’s Championships over the years !
And don’t tell me about the Jays. Those very short Joe Carter days are long gone and aren’t coming back soon
