CHAMPIONS!!!!! MONTREAL 3, VANCOUVER 1
By: Franck | October 22nd, 2009So I’m a few days late. I was celebrating with my club. There’s nothing better than winning a championship at home!
Before the match started, the Ultras pulled out an impressive tifo with the word Victoire (Victory) spelled across it. The game was set: Victory or nothing!
The first half started out rather quietly, but soon enough, the Impact took the majority of the possession and began their attack. Once again, a Whitecaps player was ejected, this time defender Shaun Pejic for a tackle inside the box, which led to a penalty, and Montreal’s first goal. Tony Donatelli scored on the penalty (30′), while Joey Gjertsen (40′) and Roberto Brown (42′) added two more before Ansu Toure (44′) took one back for Vancouver.
The second half was more quiet, with Montreal moving the ball around, wasting time before the inevitable happened: we won! We beat Vancouver with a total aggregate score of 6-2. The Ultras tore down the safety net behind the goal, some fans rushed on the field to celebrate the Impact’s third league title after a perfect 6-0 run in the playoffs.
After a truly up and down season, le onze montréalais proved they were champions. The ghosts of Santos Laguna and The Disgrace (Nutrilite Championship) have vanished once and for all.
After meeting with Montreal Mayor Gérald Tremblay at City Hall and an ovation at the Bell Centre before a Habs game, the Impact went to Quebec City to meet with Québec Premier Jean Charest before returning to Montreal for a downtown public celebration where Team Captain Mauro Biello thanked the fans for sticking with the team even when things were terrible, and Head Coach Marc Dos Santos said all that needs to be done is to repeat next season.
Once again, here are some highlights from this week, with most photos courtesy of the Impact’s official photographer, Pépé, and some taken from my own collection.

Never saw the Victoire banner on TV, all we saw was the english only banner the gino’s put up so thanks for pointing it out.
There were quite a few Tabanark de Caline at the Cage I was watching on the south shore at the english sign. Lack of respect from the gino’s.
My belgian neighbour blamed the dumb Ultras because no other group is as dense as this one that brought white flags to the big O game against Santos to cheer the team. White flags! I had people from europe ask me what the hell that was all about!
And by the way, they are 3rd rate copies of the original Montreal Ultras 20 years ago that were led by Tony Incolingo who used to be Nick Albanis team president with Jean-Talon (I came up after Nick.) These wannabee were barely heard in the big O while the originals were hard to miss. Two games with 10 players really killed it for me.
One i wouldnt mind but two games was too much.At least the BC game was good for start to dramatic end.
This game was barely watchable in the first half and was exactly as drab as could be expected in the 2nd half.We won. yeah. yipee.
Cant say I was expecting it because I cant say im impressed with the players this year.
grande, testo, jertsen are mediocre players, fit well into the team concept but still nondescript players that cant create, the fullbacks are hit and miss, often on the same play and the central defense was much weaker with jocqeviel being the worst and Pizzo getting older.
This team has no midfield leader a la Biello, Hooper, Dasovic, they have plumbers, 4th liners. The forwards I cant really figure out.
Byers is useless, brown can look good one minute and then look bored another, rocco always gives it his all and should get more time but not sure if he is a starter in the USL. eddie is great but he is getting on in age and his starting days are over.So yes, this was pretty surprising so i have to give all the credit to Dos Santos for the job he did coming in to replace Limniatis.
Im pretty pissed I think that the 2nd game didnt leave off where the 1st one ended.
But winning is better than losing.
I just prefer my winning to be entertaining because when it comes down to it, I watch sports to be entertained.Posted from

Oh, Terry…
Just to point out that we had blue flags too at the Big O. In case you hadn’t figured it out yet, the colors of the club are blue and white, hence the white flags. Had we been green and yellow, we probably would have opted for green and yellow. It’s a concept, you see.
But go ahead, we love critics coming from people living in the past who sit at la Cage aux Sports eating wings instead of showing up at the stadium to actually support the team…
