Impact 1, Crystal Palace 2

It’s not hard to explain why Montreal has been struggling lately:
injuries, lack of scoring, and players coming in and out of the team are all potentially valid excuses. I’ve heard also (laughably) that Marc Dos Santos is a terrible coach.
We can add some questionable refereeing to the mix also. I hate to jump all over the refs, especially one that handed out a fair share of cards on both sides and all. But really, the non-called foul seconds before Baltimore’s first goal was pretty bad. It even surprised keeper Srdjan Djekanovic, who didn’t even move to stop the ball from entering the net, thinking for sure a foul was going to be called for knocking down Reda Agourram.
I can’t express how much I dislike some of the Baltimore players. Mainly Gary Brooks, for all his whining and his two “injuries” during the game, and Takuro Nishimura, for an some dirty play and unwillingness to be moved off the pitch after suffering an injury. We can blame Baltimore and their players, but this should have been dealt with by the official, not by the fans in attendance. Nishimura was given a zero’s sending off as he walked around the pitch after being subbed out. Boos, whistles, middle fingers, insults, tossed water…oh, we’ll remember.
Ali Gerba played the second half. It’s nice to see a big, strong forward like Gerba. Though he wasn’t exactly synched with his teammates yesterday, there’s a feeling once he’s ready, he’s gonna explode. He was decent on the ball and tried to feed his teammates, including Eduardo Sebrango, with whom he seemed to connect most with.
Leonardo Di Lorenzo started the game off well with a 3rd minute goal. He made some impressive tackles in the first half, as well as a very clever play while sitting on the field, spinning 720 degrees with the ball between his legs before getting up and running away with the ball, all the while being harassed by a Crystal Palace player. He left the game at the half with an apparent injury. I hope like hell he’s ok. We need him, badly.
We need to get back on track. Wednesday we face AC St.Louis for the second and last time this (regular) season, and here’s hoping we give them a beating like the one they gave us last week.

To blame the refs for bad coaching and player management is laughable. This group of Impact players won’t be around when they join the MLS. Neither will joy boy Dos Santos.
Think this year is bad, wait until next season. When management’s job won’t be to win games now, but to get ready for 2012.

Next year the club will have an excuse, that’s for sure.
I have a hard time blaming Dos Santos when he’s got a depleted team (thanks mainly to injuries and departures) playing in front of him. As for player management in general, well, that’s really Nick De Santis’ fault.
As for the refereeing, I agree, it’s pretty bad to blame losses on that, but to be fair, yesterday’s refereeing was particularly bad. Again, our team should have put the game out of reach from the get-go, but didn’t.
I have a real hard time figuring out who could be with the club in 2012. Probably only Di Lorenzo and Philippe Billy. As for the rest, only a handful will be around, and then only as benchwarmers.
