Impact 1, Vancouver 0

By: Franck | September 9th, 2009

A well-deserved 3 points for the Impact, who sit alone in 5th spot with 42, one point ahead of Rochester with the same amount of games played, and 6 points ahead of Vancouver, again on the same number of matchs. The Whitecaps didn’t seem to muster much on the offensive side, nor on the possession side. The Impact, for their part, shut down Charles Gbeke’s impressive streak of 5 goals in 6 games, while showing some crafty offense. With a number of chances in the first half, they could have easily scored a few goals. In the second half, give credit to Peter Byers who not only scored a goal on a play that was called back but should have been left to continue, was later taken down by two defenders and Whitecaps keeper Jay Nolly in the box with the play being called against Montreal, and finally beat off three defenders before putting it in the back of the net from a difficult angle.

Now with Eddie Sebrango out with a fractured wrist, will Byers get the start from now on? After his performance, will head coach Marc Dos Santos finally see the light and let him be a regular starter? Regardless, let’s give this team some credit: undefeated in their last 6 (5-0-1), the team has learned how to play together, something that’s been difficult at times this season, all the while finding ways to not give up three points, that is, to play a full 90 minutes.

Sunday we face Minnesota in our final home match of the regular season.
