Joe Public 1- 4 L’Impact, Nous Jouons Comme Des Champions !
By: Marco Stucazzo | October 12th, 2008
The Vancouver Whitecaps might have won the USL championship (with the Help of L’Impact, Gbeke scoring both goals) but L’Impact is still playing. Playing well on top of it ; Joe Public saw 4 goals pass them by at home while L’Impact got over the Vancouver game with a Trinidadian Trashing !
Rocco Placentino (4′), Tony Donatelli (12′ and 78’) and Peter Byers (43′) scored for the Impact. Kerry Noray (9′) scored the lone goal for the Caribbean side.
“It’s a great win due to a big effort from the whole team,” said Impact head coach John Limniatis. “When you score four goals, you have great chances to win. Once again tonight we did well defensively. We proved again to everybody that we have a very good team that is capable of qualifying for the next round.”
“We are quite happy with tonight’s result and to be almost sure to move onto the next round,” said Donatelli. “We are very proud of ourselves for what we have accomplished.”
The least we can say is that L’Impact bounced back from their USL Semi-Final loss. Montréal will play its final two CONCACAF Champions League group stage games on Tuesday, October 21 against CD Olimpia at Saputo Stadium, as well as the following Tuesday, October 28, against Atlante FC in Cancun, Mexico.

Good job Impact! I follow their champions league matches on CBC at midnight every time they play and I grew fond of this team. They have the potential to do great things and a move to the MLS can only breathe fresh air into the sails of this exciting squad. Something tells me they have what it takes to take this competition. allez-l’Impact!

and so close to automatically qualifying for the Quarters…Atlante needed one more goal (or one less allowed)…hey, not only are we leading our group, we have more points than any team after 4 matches in the Group Stage.
Keep it up!

I’m more curious to know WHO we will be playing. As it stands, we could face either Saprissa, Maraton, Pumas, or Santos Laguna…I’m hoping for Santos…not sure we want to face Pumas or Saprissa.

The dream is not over… its just postponed. The Montreal top brass have made the best decision for the club in my opinion.
They will get a franchise, when the MLS sees the failiure of St Louis and Miami.
