L’Impact will be bringing a goal advantage to Vancouver on Sunday for the 2nd leg of the USL Playoffs semi-final. Antoni Ribeiro scored the only Montréal goal at 61st minute by being at the right place at the right time for the upteenth moment in the last 3 games. The Montreal born midfielder was even the one who caused the sending off of the Whitecap’s goalkeeper in the 2nd half.
The Whitecaps had to play a good 35 minutes a man down witht the reserve goalie in nets. L’Impact could have easily put another 2-3 past Vancouver,l’Impact dominated 14-8 in the shot column . Look at the highlights ; How many easy chances can Peter Byers miss in one game ? 5 that’s how many ! Nonetheless, l’Impact’s bringing advantage and momentum to Vancouver for the return leg on Sunday before heading on to Trinidad.
“We missed several chances tonight and we would have loved to score more goals, but we won the match and we’ll go to Vancouver with intentions of winning the second leg,” said captain Mauro Biello.
and do i need to mention that John Limniatis is in the running for coach of the year ?
“We tried to get as many players forward on the field, but we were missing some movement in the offensive third,” said Impact head coach John Limniatis. “The Vancouver defence was blocking everything and we did not have enough space to get through. We were not taking enough risks to get that second goal, which would have made a huge difference in the series. But overall we played well and we are now forcing Vancouver to win on Sunday.”
ALlez L’Impact !
And did i mention we’re officially in 1st place in our CONCACAF group after FC Atlante failed to win against Joe Public.
